Nick's Story Chapter 31 Nick's Story Chapter 32 In chapter 31: The day after Christmas, Nick Joseph and Kevin go on a bike ride up to Sperry and back. After the ride Nick and Joseph enjoy a shower. Dad announces that he wants to take the family to the Gilcrease Art Museum the next day and Jack agrees to accompany them and also invite Pablo and Juan. The next morning they go on another long bike ride to Chandler Park, this time joined by Jack. After lunch they all go out to Gilcrease in both Dad's Buick and Pablo's DeSoto. They have a surprise encounter with Tony, when Pablo and Juan enjoy a brief reunion with their brother. Nick and Joseph discuss the possibility of finding a way to reunite the brothers. Dad is delighted to drive the DeSoto when they all return back to the apartment. In chapter 32: There is great concern for the welfare of Tony and his brothers. Jack and Joseph agree to secure some legal assistance on their behalf. Joseph is enjoying his time with Nick's family but misses his piano. Nick and Joseph return to Joseph's house where Joseph has a reunion with his piano and they boys visit the bedroom. Joseph surprises Nick with a belated Christmas gift. A heavy snowfall provides an excuse for Nick to spend the night. Chapter 12 of "Rough Edges" is ready to read. Phil's punch will go on hold of a chapter as we spend this chapter with Phil and Larry as adults at the State A Baseball Tournament. Larry has to make some tough coaching decisions. And what is all of this talk of marriage about?
Chapter 32 of "The Survivors" has been posted for you to read. Robert Charles and his new friends, the Shkah, have struck. The result is the kidnapping of two of the "Starkeeper" boys. Right away the boys wonder if they can rescue their mates.

In chapter 04: The Flyers spent several days ferrying survivors back from the slave pens of the Pirate Town to the town near Malaga. Among the survivors were Odun’s woman and their small son, Toran. Odun gathered his small family and went in search of Toland, the new leader of the Crews. Nick's Story Chapter 28 Nick's Story Chapter 29 Nick's Story Chapter 30 In chapter 28: Jack agrees to attend the Globetrotters game and his friend Pablo and his brother Juan take them in Pablo's red 1960 DeSoto. Nick, Joseph and Kevin realize that they are Tony's brothers and find them to be very compatible. The game is fun and they meet a group of girls that are very interested in the boys. Kevin and Juan share their interest more so than the others. They stop at the snack bar after the game and the girls invite them to a Christmas party. To their surprise they are given permission to attend. The enthusiasm is mixed. In chapter 29: Plans are made for the party. The boys enjoy the Christmas pageant at church and then the family goes to the mall for some last minute Christmas shopping. Joseph is a great help. The trip to the mall reminds him of an event that he has not shared before. Nick, Joseph, Kevin and Juan attend the Christmas party given by the girls they met at the basketball game. Their experiences are mixed. Juan and Kevin have a great time. Nick has an unfortunate first encounter with beer and Joseph renders assistance. In chapter 30: It is Christmas Eve and Joseph will spend the holidays with Nick's family. They enjoy a nice breakfast then attend a movie with Kevin. Nick and Joseph go to the church for a run through of the special music with the choir then participate in a long but beautiful service that extends into the early hours of Christmas morning. They are pleased that Nick's mother and father attend the services as do Kevin and Jack. Christmas morning finds a tree loaded with surprises, most from Joseph. Nick and Kevin find new bicycles and are very pleased. The boys test their new bikes then are joined by Jack, Pablo and Juan for a splendid Christmas dinner. In this chapter Phil falls in with the wrong crowd and is ready to do whatever they ask to be accepted by them.

The first order of business is the purchase and decoration of a Christmas tree. There are adjustments required for Joseph's addition to the family which are accomplished successfully. The family is enjoying their new member. Now that they are together more Nick and Joseph can enjoy some long bicycle rides. As a result Joseph learns about some of the physical challenges involved in biking. In chapter 27, Nick expresses concern to his brother Kevin about his lack of a social life. Kevin reveals an abusive situation from long ago that has encouraged a need to feel safe. Joseph relates his concern for his mother's situation. The boys make plans to go see the Harlem Globetrotters and talk Jack into taking them. Chapter 31 of "The Survivors" is posted. The boys discover that while things in the Big Valley look peaceful on the surface, there is danger lurking in the background. The danger becomes even greater when Robert Charles hooks up with the Shkah, a violent offshoot of the peaceful Hakaanen.

Back at Joseph's house they find an article with Joseph's photograph from the previous evening's recital. On it is a note of encouragement from Joseph's father which delights Joseph. Kevin speaks to Tony at school and Tony expresses his friendship with Nick. When Kevin relates this to Nick he feels concern for Tony and remembers him with Mixed emotions, prompting Nick to reflect on the difference in his feelings for Tony and for Joseph. Chapter 24: Joseph spends Thanksgiving with his family at his aunt's house in Oklahoma City and Nick's family eats at Tally's restaurant. When they meet at school on Monday Joseph invites him over to visit. Joseph reports that his mother remained sober over the holiday but only with great effort. The lovers enjoy their reunion. Later, Joseph's mother has her court date and things go very poorly. She is sentenced to 60 days of alcoholic rehab and Joseph is quite distressed. Nick's family encourages Joseph to stay with them for as long as necessary. They talk with Jack, and Joseph is somewhat encouraged by their support. Chapter 25: Nick's family encourages Joseph to stay with them while his mother is in rehab. Nick and Joseph divert themselves with a movie. Joseph has a rare interview with his father who agrees that under the circumstances he has permission to stay with the Bradys on the weekends although he expects to pay them something for keeping him, an idea that Mr. Brady rejects. Joseph's father takes Mrs. Anderson to begin her stay in rehab, reports that she is remorseful and they hope that the experience will be a success. Nick's family is very concerned for Joseph and determined to help him through this difficult situation. Chapter 10 of "Rough Edges" has been posted. A lot of this chapter takes place at the State A Tournament. A number of Coach Sanders's alumni make appearances, including Kraig, Kevin, Noah, Eric, Mike the Donkey, and Connor. We will also continue our look into the past of Coach Sanders and Coach Miller. Phil had decided he wants nothing to do with Larry and his group of friends and the feeling is mutual. What nobody realized is that that relationship was going to get worse.
Chapter 9 of "Rough Edges" is ready to read. In the last chapter, Phil stunned Larry by punching him in the solar plexus. In this chapter we learn the reason behind the sucker punch. Also, more of Mayfield's alumni make cameo appearances as Coach Sanders prepares for the State A Baseball Tournament.

Nick's Story Chapter 21 Nick's Story Chapter 22 Chapter 21: After Nick enjoys one of Alice's chicken dinners, she drives him home. He tells Jack about Joseph's problems with his mother and Jack explains some things about alcoholism and the difficulties of addiction. After school on Monday Joseph tells him that his mother has stopped drinking and it is safe for Nick to come over. Her court date is some weeks away and Joseph is hopeful that things will return to normal. It is a nice day and they enjoy a bike ride. When he returns home Nick tells his family about Joseph's next recital and they all agree to attend. Kevin informs him that he has spoken to Tony at school and relayed Nick's concern for him. A few days later rain causes Nick to skip his usual visit to Joseph's house and he comes home early and surprises Kevin in a private moment. Chapter 22: Nick has dinner with Joseph and they are encouraged by his mothers apparent sobriety. Joseph expresses an interest in a sleepover at Nick's apartment and plans are made for Joseph to stay over after his recital. The entire family attends and are blown away by the quintet and Joseph's solo work. Back at the apartment they celebrate with cake and coffee. Kevin volunteers to sleep on the sofa so Joseph can have his bed. After a moment of payback from Kevin, Nick and Joseph discover the challenges of twin beds. Chapter 30 of "The Survivors" has been posted. The boys have made contact with a group of Hakaanen boys. How will the boys from both sides handle this unexpected happening? And lurking in the background is Robert Charles. You knew he would reappear.

Wanted to give a small update to anyone reading our blog, I'm hard at it writing "Catch Me if I Fall", I have finished writing the outline of the story (never easy, always time consuming but helps to have a general outline of the whole story before going into each individual chapter) and finished writing chapter 1. If all goes according to plan Oct. 1 I should start publishing the story. In the meanwhile the other resident authors Hunter, Douglas and About-a-boy, are at it with some incredible stories! Nick's Story Chapter 18 Nick's Story Chapter 19 Nick's Story Chapter 20 In chapter 18, Nick returns home in the morning to have a talk with Jack about his friend Tony. He is shocked to learn that Tony and his brothers are being pimped out by their father. Jack tells him what he knows about this difficult situation. Nick shares with jack about his growing relationship with Joseph and his gratitude for his brother Kevin. After church jack treats the boys to a hamburger then drops them off at Joseph's house where Joseph reveals the extent of his mother's drinking problem. The boys go for a bike ride and on their return Joseph is called in to confront his angry mother. Nick returns home to reflect on how grateful he is for his own family. In chapter 19, Nick shares his concern about Joseph's mother with his friend Jack who educates him on the difficult reality of alcoholism. Nick is informed that Joseph's mother has objected to Nick's frequent presence and the almost daily visits must end. Nick finds his brother Kevin to be a source of comfort and support. Jack gives Nick an update on his friend Tony. Nick is horrified to learn the extent of that family's problems, and grateful for his own. Nick and Joseph are able to see each other at choir practice and when Nick is issued a choir robe and allowed to join in the service on Sunday, his family makes good on their promise. Joseph's parents are away for the day and he and Nick are able to enjoy a quick reunion. In chapter 20, Nick and Joseph now only see each other briefly at school, during the choir practice and at church. Nick learns from his brother Kevin that Tony and his brother Carlos have been sent to the Tulsa Boys Home but are attending classes at Kevin's school. At church on Sunday Nick finds Joseph very upset and is invited to come to Joseph's house. Once there, Joseph tearfully informs Nick that his mother did not return home the evening before and Joseph fears the worst. Alice informs them that Mrs. Anderson has been arrested for drunk driving and is being held in jail. Joseph tries to tell Alice how grateful he is for her care. Nick and Joseph discuss their relative circumstances and Nick is made to realize just how fortunate he is, and what an important person the housekeeper Alice is in Joseph's life. When they talk about Joseph's music and Nick's baseball they realize that they have more in common than first thought. At bedtime there are some first experiences to be shared. They attend church services in the morning and afterwards are joined by Nick's family for pizza in a birthday celebration. When Jack returns them to Joseph's house, Kevin is invited along to join them for a bike ride. Chapter 17. Nick is now attempting to sing with the choir and he and Joseph plan to attend a choir Halloween party. When Nick talks with his brother Kevin he learns that his old friend Tony is in serious trouble and is reminded just how faithful a friend his brother is. At the party the costumes are a hit. Nick spends the night with Joseph after the party and their relationship deepens. |
