Legend Book 02
Sasqua'ia
(Completed)
(Fantasy)
SYNOPSIS:
The first and only deep space ship built by the Sasqua’ia became their lifeboat. Their star had become unstable after they were attacked by a race known as the Ka’aa and, for several hundred revolutions of their home planet around its star, the radiation output varied wildly, alternating in baking their planet, Sasqua, and freezing it. It was a race of time, one they dared not lose, the goal was the continuation of their race.
They were a sturdy race and were uni-sexual. That is, they were both male and female in the same body. Once impregnated by another of their race, they carried their developing offspring in a pouch for two sun cycles before it was developed sufficiently to survive in the outside world. They found, during their explorations of their nearest galactic neighbors that they could interbreed with beings that had two distinct sexual characteristics, that is male and female, however, in doing so, the child would be covered in coarse hair and had a shorter lifespan. The lifespan of a “purebred” was around 2,000 cycles of their planet around its star (sun cycle), the half breeds lived only half that length of time.
When it became apparent their star was not going to survive, the Sasqua’ia began building a life ship, hoping to save at least some of their kind. As the great ship lifted from the planet’s surface with 400 of their kind in suspended animation, their star went nova and destroyed their home world. The ship barely avoided cremation and headed into deep space, its computers searching for a new home where its sleeping passengers could begin again.
